Helping Neighbours
“Was it by reason that I attained the knowledge that I must love my neighbour and not throttle him? They told me so when I was a child, and I gladly believed it, because they told me what was already in my soul. But who discovered it? Not reason!” - Tolstoy
I have a big favour to ask. The fellow that writes one of the blogs I visit regularly (Bacon Bits and Midget Parts) faced a very difficult time this week. The gas station beside his family home burned to the ground and threatened his parents home. I just discovered today that they live only miles from where I grew up. Our family used to go for picnics and swims at Batchewana Bay on occasion when I was a minnow. The people owning the station and store are best friends with his parents, and he is best friends with the son of the burned out family. They lost everything, you can read the details here. (language caution: he is very 'expressive' at times on his site!)
Just last week, he opened a store on www.cafepress.com and he will be giving all profits from that to them, so if you want to check out some of his designs for T-shirts go there and have a boo.
Also, he is putting together an auction on e-bay of artwork...photos, paintings, digital art, etc. and is asking for donations. If you have something that you want to pass on, well, that would be cool.
People helping people. That's the bottom line.
P.S. Monday Update: I meant to mention when I first posted this that you should go have a look at Al's site whether or not you have anything to donate. He has the same sense of humour as "Redneck nerdboy" I think. He draws these incredibly terrible images with some smart ass quip that goes with it, but then he always includes a "real-life" moral in a serious vein reflecting on the same idea. It's a cool idea, and some of his stuff makes you really stop for a sec and think. Give it a boo. Bacon Bits and Midget Parts.
PEACE.
I'll donate what I can. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm starting to think that when the big guy upstairs was dishing out "goodness" crumpets, you got an overdose. I'm sure Al will appreciate whatever you can pass on.
Cheers!

Please take note of the P.S. that I've added to the original post here.
