It Had To Happen Sooner Or Later I Guess...Sigh!

I apologize...no quotes today. I've been having a ream full of problems today getting connected. And no divider with the yellow leaves either...Blogger won't co-operate with the picture upload. It's just one of those days. Sigh.

Anyway, I've been tagged! Now ain't that just about the most exciting thing since worms crawled? Angela in Toronto is trying to punish me because I haven't been visiting her for awhile...or whatever. Just kiddin', Angela! Anyway, here goes.

Let's play "21 questions", blogger-tag style.

-----------------------------------------

1) Would you bungee jump?

>> There was a time I would have said 'absolutely!'... after all, I've jumped from an airplane 3 times, but now I'm paralyzed with fear when I even think about heights. The jump would be a blast, though. Maybe blindfolded so I didn't have the height thing going on.

2) If you could do anything in the world for a living what would it be?

>> Well, the goody-goody answer is to be the diplomat who finally makes the United Naions work the way it's supposed to, but I think being the king of an African or Amazon tribe would be more realistic.

3) Your favorite fictional animal?

>> If I say Winnie The Pooh, will that make me a sissy? Otherwise I'd go with Mickey for sure.

4) One person who never fails to make you laugh?

>> What means this word "laugh"...I'm one heavily depressed dude, doncha know, doncha know? But in the good old days when I was human I'd have to say one of my former co-workers, Brian Y.

5) When you were 12 years old what did you want to be when you grew up?

>> Crap! I'm supposed to remember what I thought way back then? I can't even remember what I thought this morning, fer cryin' out loud! But I do remember a stretch of about 3 days when I was a kid and I had decided I was going to be a medical missionary in Russia....don't ask, 'cause I don't know!

6) What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

>> Feed my cat a meat treat. Aw...isn't that sweet! The little bugger jumps on my chest and walks around on me until I get up and do it anyway, so I really have no choice.

7) Have you ever gone to therapy?

>> Hey! C'mon now. You're talkin' to a bipolar, gay, ugly, and old guy who has Menieres Disease. What do you think about whether I've been in therapy, huh?!! I was just with my shrink for an hour yesterday, in fact.

8) If you could have one super power what would it be?

>> Well, it'll sound sappy, I know, but I'd like to be the Peace Broker for Planet Earth. I'm just tired of all the hate, I truly am.

9) Your favorite cartoon character?

>> Charlie Brown 'cause if I said Dick Tracy, no one would know who I was talking about.

10) Do you go to church?

>> Not since I saw the light, and realized they're just commercial businesses. F'rinstance, my bro's church just finished a fund-raiser attempting to raise seven million buckaroos. Now, if it was used for charity or something, ok. Nope! Renovations to the church for God's sake ! Seven million bucks...you read it right!! The mind boggles. But, back to the question: I used to when the folks took me as a kid, and then for a few years on my own after that. I think it was the Viet Nam War that finally caused me to come to my senses. But I sure don't knock anyone else who goes. I still consider myself a very spiritual person, though. Each to his/her own, eh?

11) What is your best childhood memory?

>> Going with my dog out by the waterfalls and beaver dam that were back behind our house a ways, and then sitting in this awesome spot leaning up against a big tree and spending an afternoon reading a book while the beavers checked me out. A close second would be the smell of my wool mittens as they hung beside the furnace duct drying out, and Mom having hot chocolate ready for us when we got home from school (we had to walk a mile and a half) on a cold day. Awwww....isn't that sweet!.

12) Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual?

>> Not for those who want it. If my life had unfolded differently, I'd definitely get married (and it would be the full lifelong commitment thingy..not just a 'while it's convenient' thingy). And BTW, I have a little trouble with the bias built into this question using 'ritual' instead of 'ceremony'. ....I'm just sayin'....

13) Do you own a gun?

>> Absolutely... NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I make it clear that I meant to say NEVER!!!! As in NEVER, EVER. And I think that should apply to EVERYone else too....including governments. It's that 'World Peace' thing again, you see. Oh, sigh! Me oh my!

14) Have you ever hit someone of the opposite sex?

>> Does doing it in self-defence with my big sister count, as in, when we were growing up and doing that "siblings not getting along 'cause I want to sit by the window" thing? If not, then my answer would be 'no'. It's just plain rude!

15) Have you ever sung in front of a large number of people?

>> Define 'large'. But the answer is really 'no'. I have SPOKEN in front of crowds many, many times however.

16) What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?

>> The eyes, definitely. But why the stereotypical question again, huh? Why does it have to be the opposite sex? How about us gay dudes, huh? Well...huh? The answer is still the same though. Weird, eh?

17) What is your biggest mistake?

>> Can I get away with saying "answering this damn thing", or do I have to be serious? If that's the case, it would be not claiming my independence much earlier in my life than I did (and being gay too of course, but that goes without saying. Yeah, right..... as if I had any say in the matter!).

18) Say something totally random about yourself.

>> My left foot is longer than my right one. Cripes...why did that come to mind, of all things!

19) Has anyone ever said that you looked like a celebrity?

>> Yup, just one though, but I don't remember his name. He played the part of a Russian guy in some sitcom that ran on TV about 20 years ago or so I think it was...wait! ....it just came to me... something like Bronchett or Piniset, or something like that....(help!). I vaguely remember that he was roommates with a white dude, but I never watched it so I can't tell you more than that. It wasn't particularly much of a compliment BTW.

20) What is the most romantic thing someone of the opposite sex has done for you?

>> Here we go with that 'opposite sex' thing again! And it assumes that I've had relationships of some kind in my life where someone would want to be romantic with me. Did I mention that I was seeing a shrink?.

21) Do you actually read these when other people fill them out?

>> Yeah, most of the time. I usually read the first four or five Q&A's to see what's going on, and if it hasn't grabbed me by the gonads by then, I quit reading it. Strangely enough, I never read them when they're part of comments, because you don't have the questions there too.

-----------------------------------------------

Well, thanks a lot for this wonderful sojourn down memory lane. No, honest, that's sincere! I really, really mean it! Truly I do! No...really! Honest! Would I ever lie to you? C'mon now! Have a little faith in me, huh?

I always hate passing these along in case someone's nose will be out of joint if I leave them off (it's that World Peace thing again), so I'll do it this way.

I'm specifically going to tag Lisa because she reads my blog all the time...a true regular, Mackey because she's a fellow Edmonchucker, Shane and JJ just to see how compatible they really are (pressure's on guys, and no cheating!), Mel to thank her again for doing such a fabulous (it's a gay thing) job on revamping my site completely (what?.....you mean it's not an honour to be named?),

and to everyone else who feels like it (including you lurkers who never leave comments...I know who you are!).

Oh yeah. For you folks that I named, as well as those I didn't, this is just optional homework, and you won't be tested on it at the end of the term. So, suit yourself.

Sorry, I would have put hyperlinks in for those of you who I named, but like I said at the beginning.....uh-uh, it's not going to happen today. Heavy sigh!

PEACE.

Bronson Pinchot played the role of "Balki" in the sitcom "Perfect Strangers".

Cool! I got tagged! And here I was thinking I had nothing to write about today. :) I'll have to work on this tonight...

JJ: tee hee!

JJ and Lisa's Mom: YES! YES YES! Now it all comes flooding back to me. Amazing how good your memory becomes when someone else remembers things for you. Thank you....I would have had endless sleepness nights worrying.

Lisa: I think the tradition is that you're NOT supposed to like these things, but whatever! Hope you have fun with it, I'll be looking forward to your answers!

Love the responses...and I love Winnie the Pooh..something about that little bear!

Tigger...I love Tigger the best. My daughter and I have a huge collection of Pooh movies. Someone asked, which character in Winnie the Pooh reminds you most of yourself? I thought about it a long time. There are traits of each of them in me. Wish I could have said, Tigger! though, because he sure is one happy critter, oblivious to anything but life being fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!

Woo Hoo!! I've been tagged!!! Call me wierd but I like to do those things.
I'll try to get it up tonight.....hmmm...if I were a guy that last phrase would have sounded really wrong:P

Thanks SO much for playing! I loved reading all your answers.

And don't think I didn't notice your answer to number 7. Now, I don't believe in violence, but if I were sitting next to you right now, you'd be getting a smack on the arm. You are beautiful, inside and out. Never forget that.

And I am such a TV geek, that I just had to also mention that on the show Perfect Strangers, Balki Bartokomous was from the fictional country of Mypos, stereotyped after rural Greece.

Be good to yourself! We love you.

Wow, that was a big one. I think it's perfectly fine for you to like Winnie the Pooh. Mickey is so loud, yanno? And as for the gun thing, I am right there with you.

Well okay then, I'm sticking with Winnie no matter what anyone else thinks.. So there! Nyah nyah!

It continues to amaze me how much trivial detail some people can retain for such a long time about such unmemorable shows (I won't mention any of you "perfect Stranger" watchers by name...but you know who you are! )

Mackey, you must have been drinking the same water as Lisa. You're not supposed to like these, are you? (Actually, I had a lot of fun, but then again, I'm me!).

Angela, I hear what you're saying, and thank you. It's just that the view from inside the mirror is a whole lot different than the one you get to see out there...does that make any sense?

And finally, whoo-hoo on the gun support thing. Maybe we could start a movement...right here and now. Whaddya say?

Cheers everyone!

Just a comment about your idea that all churches are "commercial businesses". That is SO not true. Our church is a "family" of very loving, caring, giving people. You just need to see THE Light, and try a Bible preaching church. Try it; you might like it!

Anonymous: Of course, it makes me feel glad that you've found something that gives the answers you're looking for. And while I always respect other's religious beliefs, it doesn't mean that I have to agree with them (and conversely, if I don't agree, it doesn't mean I don't respect them).

I have tried United, Anglican, Catholic, Baptist, non-denominational and probably a couple others. The one experience spritually that I would like to have before my day of reckoning is to be witness to, and part of, one of those joyous black Baptist services from the deep south. THAT's got the feeling!!

As far as seeing THE Light (and I'm not sure by that if you mean having an aha-insight as I read the Bible, or having some other kind of life-altering event,) it's just not going to happen with me, since I reject the writings in the Bible as those done by priests and monks some 400 years or so after the alleged incidents took place. And it was their job to control the hearts and minds of the people. Being the only literate slice of society, it was not a difficult task.

To end on a "high" however < smile > , you also mentioned that you find church a "family of loving, caring, giving people." I find that wonderful, but then my sceptic puts on his hat and says "is church just a social club that meets once a week?"

My final point of pure curiosity, and it's not a challenge or intended for pressure or anything like that, but I had to wonder why someone defending their faith (which I believe is just about the strongest force there is in our lives) would enter your comments under "anonymous." Honestly, there's no need to reply...it might be quite personal, I'm just saying that on the surface it implies there's something to hide, that's all. Bigger mistakes have been made from smaller assumptions than this.

Thanks deeply for the comment. It's these kinds of comments that always get people thinking, if not talking to each other. Have a cheery day!!

I am very new to the world of blogging and haven't started one of my own yet, and I haven't decided what name to use. That was the only reason I clicked on "anonymous". I mean, after all, is "Evydense" YOUR real name?? Are you hiding something? I don't hide my faith from anyone. Hope you have a good day.

Nope, Evydense isn't my real name...it's Rick, glad to meet you. When you do get a blog set up, it'd be nice if you dropped by from time to time and maybe we could get a little discussion going. We both know, as I said in my first comment, one's religion is a very personal and touchy topic.

I hope I'm wrong, but I interpret the "tone" of your second comment to be hostile and defensive. If that's the case, I apologize for anything I said that may have put you in that frame of mind (except, of course, the fact that I don't buy into religions, but that's me; for you, it's obviously quite different). Different is okay.

Since you're new to blogging, I'll also point out that there is something called "flames" or "flaming wars". That's when two (or more) blogger's have a difference (such as ours) but turn it into something personal and emotional. Just for the record, I'm not going there.

I had intended to word my original comment objectively while still making my point. The written word has apparently failed me in that regard. Again, I apologize. { and thanks for the wishes for a good day! Back at ya!}

Cheers

Rick
