Prayer For Bad Times

"My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.” - Albert Einstein

I love you when you bow in your mosque, kneel in your temple, pray in your church. For you and I are sons of one religion, and it is the spirit.” - Kahil Gibran

A name is a label, and as soon as there is a label, the ideas disappear and out comes label-worship and label-bashing, and instead of living by a theme of ideas, people begin dying for labels... and the last thing the world needs is another religion.” - Richard Bach

I gave up on the "formalized" religions sometime ago. The reasons, timing and purpose are irrelevant here (although the above quotes may provide some clues!). That, however, is not to say that they are suddenly devoid of wisdom, guidance, advice, strength and support.

In view of several of the blogs I've been reading recently, and it may be just the post-Christmas blues", I though I'd share this clipping from a newspaper that I've been carrying around for years. I'm sorry, but I can't provide any author or source.

PRAYER FOR BAD TIMES:

Dear God: Help me be a good sport in this game of life. I don't ask for an easy place in the lineup. Put me anywhere you need me. I only ask that I can give you 100 per cent of everything I have. If all the hard drives seem to come my way, I thank you for the compliment. Help me remember that you never send a player more trouble than he can handle.

And help me Lord, to accept the bad breaks as part of the game. May I always play on the square, no matter what the others do. Help me study the Book so I'll know the rules.

Finally, God, if the natural turn of events goes against me and I'm benched for sickness or old age, help me to accept that as part of the game too. Keep me from whimpering that I was framed or that I got a raw deal. And when I finish the final inning, I ask for no laurels. All I want is to believe in my heart that I played as well as I could and that I didn't let you down.

PEACE.

Great prayer! Love it!

So perfect for the way life has been for some lately. It's nice to put things into this kind of perspective and hopefully it helps us all see the struggles of life a little differently and even with a positive spin.

"The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and three hundred and sixty-two admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision." - Lynne Lavner*** I'm confused; curious; satisfied; realistically resigned to being a frustrated idealist; usually at peace with myself, but not always. Amazed at how little I know, and wondering how much I need to understand.
