Spam

Today's announcement should send the message loud and clear that the department is committed to using the CAN-SPAM Act and the federal laws to stop those who invade the homes of American families with unwanted, obscene spam.” - John Richter

This morning, I had the following two e-mails in my inbox.

Does anyone have a clue what any of this means, what is it, why did I get it, and how do I stop it from coming anymore? (I have a spam filter on my mail, and have added these two sending addresses.)

I got 11 hits on a google search for "www.0451.com" and they were all in a language that looks Japanese or Chinese.

Am I just the lucky recipient of random spam, or is this the beginning of a not-so-beautiful relationship? Any feedback, ideas or input graciously accepted!

P.S. Just for the record, this is my 150th post since starting blogging!

PEACE.

Here's the deal: Spammers will throw together random words and sentences in order to get past your spam filters. Sometimes they will attach a virus that looks for info like your financial information..other times they attach an ad for enlargement of certain body parts. If you do not recognize the sender, it is best to just delete the email!

Two of my daily spam this morning contained quotes, or partial quotes, from Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

It's annoying, but I think of spam as bugs on the windshield of the web.

All I can say is it wasn't me!

Also, I think some spammers try to trick you into replying to the email, so they know they have a legitimate address. Best to just delete them.

And happy 150th post! :)

I have no idea about the random spam. Congrats about the 150 posts! Rock on!

I get a few, that get past my filter, but I never open unknowns.

Spam SUCKS! I have no tolerance for spam, it's such a pet peeve of mine! If I don't know the source, I don't bother opening because I have heard that if you open, the sender will be able to tell and then know you have an active email account if they are just fishing for addys randomly. And you should never click on that "remove from mailing list link" either as it's also a way to verify that your email is active and they will only spam you more. I've learned a few things here and there about these icky mails.

Happy 150th post too!

I'm with all of you! I always delete spam straight away, I never open attachments, and I add any addresses that do get through to the filter.

I was just interested in the seeming randomness and incomplete thoughts in these two, and the fact that one of them wasn't even addressed to me.

I think the strangest thing in all of this is the fact that there's no attachment or link to click on in the same type of spam emails that I'm getting. I've posted the ones that I've been getting on my blog.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one getting these! :)
