In Memoriam - Dec. 8, 2007

(Chapman) is not the story, ... He's the ending of the story, but he's not the story. The story is the 25 years of achievement that John Lennon managed, the music and poetry he left behind and the feeling of creation.” - Larry Kane

I found out Lennon was more accessible.” - Mark Chapman (Lennon's murderer)

I just shot John Lennon.” - Mark Chapman

[It was 27 years ago, Dec. 8, John Lennon was shot to death outside his New York apartment. I loved the man and the artistry he produced in his lifetime. His music has continued the standard that Bob Dylan set for us back in the sixties.
Some people believe that everything happens for a reason. I think I even used to believe that once. Not anymore. This is evidence. There simply is no reason.]
[NOTE: If you are offended by certain combinations of letters, popularly known as the "four-letter words", you may just want to skip this posting. There is one 'naughty' in it towards the end.]

"IMAGINE"

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

John Lennon
Oct.9, 1940 - Dec. 8, 1980
"Give Peace a Chance."
Please.
PEACE.

Amen.

Loved this post Evy - wonderful tribute to a great man that the world lost far to early....

Great tribute! John Lennon was the most talented of the Beatles. I still enjoy his words. No...there was no reason..no justification.

I can't explain what John Lennon means to me.
His name, to me, is peace.
Whenever I am asked if I could meet anyone living or dead who would it be, I always say "John Lennon."
My absolute fave Christmas song is "Happy Christmas" by John Lennon.
When I get to heaven I am gonna look him up:)

Thanks for all your additions to the tribute, folks. They are much appreciated, and I believe they show what a universal impact his words, music, thoughts and ideas truly have had in the last half decade or so. It's just that it's a continuous struggle, this 'peace' thing, and most of us grow weary of the task far too early. It's too draining.

Isn't it interesting how certain international figures somehow find themselves in this unique position...effectively being the spokesperson for world peace. I think of Nelson Mandella, Mother Theresa, The Dali Lama, Bono (of U2), and others, I'm sure.

My question, I guess is, "What do they have that the rest of us don't....and can we get it somehow?" I wonder if a study's ever been done on that.

I was at a concert in Sherwood Park last night, and the entire show (by Mark Williams) was a tribute to Lennon and his development through the various stages of his music. There was more than once that I found myself having to fight back a tear or two, I tell you!

Mackey: ..."meet anyone living or dead" = John Lennon. Excellent choice, but there are so many! I'd have a tough time limiting it to just one. I think I'd book a table for 10 or so!

Ciao folks, and thanks for dropping by my site. I appreciate your patience and understanding as I work through all this stuff, and know that whenever I feel like posting, the faithful few will be there, patiently waiting! I love you all for that. It means more than you can ever understand..

I'm attempting once more to get attached to one of the Bipolar Webrings. I tried last year, and got hopelessly lost. I hope it works this time. It'll bring new readers to some of our blogs too. I trust that's OK with everyone?

Cheers and Peace
R.

Oops!....I meant to say "the last half century". Sorry!

The answer to your question...Can we get what those people are born with? is everyone born with empathy, compassion and love...or are we taught greed & it's a dog eat dog world. Makes you wonder!

I kinda like that kid's shirt! :D

Happy holidays to you brotherman, and everyone you know and love!

Merry Christmas to you Evy!! :)

Merry Christmas Rick. Wishing you health & happiness...from my home to yours.

I love the tribute to Lennon and I love the kid's shirt so much I am "stealing" to post on my blog/

"The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and three hundred and sixty-two admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision." - Lynne Lavner*** I'm confused; curious; satisfied; realistically resigned to being a frustrated idealist; usually at peace with myself, but not always. Amazed at how little I know, and wondering how much I need to understand.
